Launching a New Era for British Basketball

British basketball is stepping into a brand-new era with the launch of the British Championship Basketball (BCB) league. Built from the foundations of the former NBL Division One, BCB brings together clubs, players, and fans with a shared vision: to grow the game we all love and make it stronger across the UK.

The league has been formed in partnership with the British Basketball Federation and the Home Country Associations in England, Scotland, and Wales. By working together, the aim is simple: to create clear pathways for players, coaches, and officials while making sure the sport is inclusive and accessible to every community.

At its heart, BCB is about people. It’s about creating opportunities for young players, giving coaches the support they need, and ensuring every fan feels part of the journey. From grassroots to the professional stage, the league is designed to connect local communities with the wider basketball family, offering more chances to play, watch, and get involved.

This first season will see a fantastic line-up of clubs representing their cities and communities:

  • City of Birmingham Rockets

  • Bristol Hurricanes

  • Bristol Flyers

  • Essex Rebels

  • Derby Trailblazers

  • Hemel Storm

  • London Cavaliers

  • Loughborough Riders

  • MK Breakers

  • Newcastle Knights

  • Nottingham Hoods

  • Reading Rockets

  • Worthing Thunder

  • Yorkshire Dragons

Every one of these clubs brings its own history, fans, and passion to the court. Together, they form the backbone of a league that is focused on collaboration, development, and sustainability.

BCB isn’t just about the men’s and women’s professional game: it’s about connecting with schools, junior leagues, and local clubs to build something lasting. TMA is assisting the league is also creating a central digital hub for fans, players, and clubs! This will host content, memberships, highlights, and behind-the-scenes stories that make supporters feel closer to the action.

This is more than just a league. It’s a chance to build a basketball community that lasts for generations. With the strength of our clubs, the passion of our fans, and the opportunities we are creating together, the future of British basketball looks brighter than ever.
